Losing your first infant tooth is an important part of growing up.
We demand teeth to bite, chomp and chew so that we can enjoy a healthy diet with lots of dissimilar types of food. Teeth also help the states speak and pronounce tricky words. They help to abound our jaws and face and of course, teeth help u.s. smiling.
Considering of how much we need them, teeth start to grow even earlier we are built-in. We can't meet them at the start because they are growing within our jaws, under our gums. Just past the fourth dimension we are around half dozen months old, we tin offset to come across the first few teeth coming through.
Different teeth accept different uses
About people will eventually get 20 baby teeth. They are our first set of teeth. They will be replaced by developed teeth as we abound up. The last babe tooth usually falls out at about 12 years of historic period.
The teeth at the forepart of the mouth are called incisors, and they have sharp edges for bitter (like when we bite into an apple). The really pointy teeth are called canines and we need them to tear off food.
At the back, we have molar teeth. They are large teeth with lots of bumps and grooves to aid usa chew. Adults too accept premolar teeth (but kids do non).
Nosotros often don't notice, simply at the same time that our first baby teeth start to fall out, we as well get new teeth at the back of our mouth. These are our offset adult tooth teeth.
By around our 6th birthday, we might start to come across and feel some changes in our mouths. Our babe teeth are becoming worn down from all the bitter and chewing they take done. We have also grown bigger overall and our jaws and mouths accept grown likewise.

Teeth have roots too
Teeth stay in the mouth because, like copse, they have roots that hold them in our jaws.
Molar roots are normally, long and smooth. Forepart teeth ordinarily have but one root only dorsum teeth can have equally many as iii roots. When the time is right, our bodies have special cells that slowly eat abroad the roots of the teeth. As the roots become shorter, the teeth start to become loose. Finally, most of the root disappears and the tooth falls out!
Non long after, a new adult tooth volition start to peek through the gap left by the baby tooth.
Adult teeth can await a bit funny at the start – they are ordinarily a bit yellower, can accept bumps and grooves and are of class much bigger. They besides accept much longer roots. Developed teeth are made this way so that they are strong enough to last our entire lives. You lot'll be chewing food for many, many decades to come. That's a lot of food to chew through!
The correct teeth for the correct job
People get two sets of teeth because this is what works best for the way we consume and grow.
Animals are but the aforementioned – they accept teeth that match the way they eat and grow. Rats like to use their front teeth to crumb and champ at food then have front teeth that proceed growing. Alligators can make new teeth whenever they need and sharks take rows of teeth that they replace all the time. They get a lot more than sets of teeth than us.
Just people only have 2 sets of teeth so nosotros have to do our best to look later them by brushing twice a day with toothpaste and fugitive sugariness drinks and snacks.
